Was good value for money until the price was hiked from about R205 to the current R255. A whopping R50 in one hit!

For the past year, green bean coffee prices have been trading above $2-00/lb, up from around $1.20/lb a year before, and the costs of shipping have literally quadrupled through the Covid-19 period (and still remain unreasonably high in our view). We maintained our pricing through this period in the hope that we’d see some retracing in the coffee price and that sanity would return to the shipping industry. We got neither… and in fact got an increased oil price which not only kept freight costs high but added to the cost of plastic packaging! So our choice was to either substitute cheaper origins or maintain the blends and increase prices …. and as we did not want to change the taste profile…. we had to increase the price. These price increases are unfortunately being seen throughout the coffee industry (a blend that cost R189-99 a year ago in Woolworths, now sits at R249-99). The sad news is that the coffee traders and freight forwarders don’t see any respite in the near future, and with local inflationary pressures, above average price increases in the coffee industry, may not yet be over (especially if the Rand/$ exchange rate goes the wong way). We understand that no-one likes price increases, and we are sorry that we had to do this to the coffee blends you like. You can be sure we are doing all we can to minimise costs and we hope you’ll decide to continue drinking them. Please also consider the Loba blends which our Q-Grader and his roast team have put together with quality origin coffee – we’d love to invite you over to taste the range so please just let us know if you’d like to visit the roastery for a tasting.

Hi Anna. Thank you for the comment and we try very hard to keep pricing where it remains affordable to drink our coffee. With international coffee prices increasing and the Rand/$ sliding, it is becoming more difficult to maintain prices… but we try!
